Mere Sanam - My Dearest

It’s amazing to know that what you did on the spur of the moment can be one of the most cherished moments of your near one’s life. The following was written on a ‘Paper Napkin’ in the year 2008, sometime nearing midnight, waiting for the train, at Kottayam railway station, on the way to Thiruvananthapuram, to see my then pregnant wife. I was missing her a lot!!
She kept it safe all these years and showed it to me yesterday. Oh! The memories that came rushing back…. I’m trying to first put it down in Hindi- phonetically, and then will translate it into English.

Mere Sanam

Tum aise chaaye mere dil par sanam,
Tere bin ab pagal ho jaayenge hum.
Tuj bin jeena nahin hai mujhe,
Baahon mein apne, bhar loon tujhe.
Ehsaas tera pyaar ka hua,
Tere bin, tanhaayi jab mujhe chua,
Chodke akela mujhe, jaana nahin,
Ek pal tere bin mujhe bithana nahin.
Khayalon mein aati ho, tadppathe mujhe,
Tere nakhrein, mere dil mein, bhaati mujhe.
Palkon pe bitaaoon, baahon mein sulaaoon,
Agar tum na ho paas toh, mein kho jaaon.
Dil ki lagi hai, tu mere dillagi hai,
Tere bin tanhaayi dil ko lagi hai.
Tum aise chaaye mere dil par sanam,
Tere bin yeh jeevan ab na jeeyenge hum.

My Dearest

My heart has been so captivated by you dear,

That without you, I'll lose my sanity, I fear.

A life without you I loathe,

I'd fill you in my arms, My Oath!

I felt the love that you gave,

When your absence left a void so grave.

Never go leaving me alone again,

A moment without you is a pain.

Thoughts of you by my side torment me,

All your tantrums, they now lighten me.

I'll set you on my lashes, cradle you in my arms,

But, I'm so lost without your charms.

You hold the reins to my heart, Darling,

Without you here, the void is snarling.

My heart has been so captivated by you dear,

That without you, I'd rather not live, I fear.

Wonderful Influence For Ever

As far as influences go, what is it?
When do you give up your individuality?
When do you take a turn for the better?
When do you start earning the respect of love?
Not the respect of fear?
When do you feel that you've mellowed?
That your anger is now slow to rise?
When do you become human?

Well, for me, it was when i found true love,
Selfless, untarnished, possessive, caring,
Cocooning, tender, soothing, love.

God send me love, thank You Lord, as a woman,
Who is mine for ever, is mine above all else,
She is my Wonderful Influence For Ever.

Am I Religious?

Am I Religious? May be, may be not.
Why God is present in everything I write?
Cause, He's present, interwined in my life.
What has He given me for me to be so?
You'd better ask what He's not given me.
Am I living the life of me dreams?
This is what God's given me, and,
I'm happy beyond my means.

It is not what we want, it's what we need,
That, when we get, we realise it was so,
For that you really need God in your life.

Now back to the question people often ask,
Am I Religious? May be I am, may be not.
That's for you to decide, for me, God does.

Appreciation

You have to become blind, to know the value of sight.
So the saying goes, and you come to know it's true!
When you could walk around, busy as a bee might,
No time to spare, no places gone, no ideas to strew,
When you felt, if there was a moment's rest,
That would be a gift sent from The Father in heaven,
You see a new horizon to reach, to climb a new crest.
You are left to hope, that your rest will be even.

Then you are laid down, forcibly, like your Father bade,
You and your cot, a partnership compulsorily made,
And that, from your breathlessness, becomes a shade.

And, you appreciate, the beauty, the richness, all around,
You appreciate, what in that rest, you now have found,
You appreciate, that your Father keeps you safe and sound!

What's in a New Year,
if all it brings you is joy?
What's in a New Year,
if all it brings you is tears?
What's in a New Year,
if your loved ones aren't there?
What's in a New Year,
if GOD's Grace isn't remembered?
What's in a New Year,
if you don't realise your faults?
What's in a New Year,
if you don't correct yourself?
What's in a New Year,
if you don't say sorry?
It's a New Year, a new start,
Forgive, Forget, Move on.
